Our Tree Planting Project

Sustainability is at the heart of our business, and we have planted over 100,000 trees through our partnership with the International Tree Foundation.

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and ensure our suppliers source solid Scandinavian pine from FSC and PEFC approved forests. As a company using the earth’s resources, we pledge to keep striving for environmental sustainability - a goal you help us achieve

International Tree Foundation

Over 100 Years Of Dedicated Work In Forest Conservation

International Tree Foundation is a charity working with local communities to plant trees and restore forests in places where, together, they can make the fastest, most lasting impact for communities and the future of our planet. Founded in Kenya in 1922 by Richard St. Barbe Baker and Chief Josiah Njonjo, ITF is the oldest international tree planting charity in the world.

But their work is about much more than just planting individual trees. It is about empowering communities to protect and benefit from their landscapes. It’s about stopping threatened species from going extinct and reversing biodiversity loss. It’s about gender justice and giving people the tools to transform their lives.

The Benefits of Trees

Capture Carbon & Combat Climate Change

Utilise innovative methods to absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Helping reduce greenhouse gases and protect the planet’s delicate climate balance.

Create and improve livelihoods

Support community development. Empowering people with skills and opportunities for a better quality of life.

Improve Access to Vital Resources

Ensure communities have reliable food and medicine supplies. Strengthening health, resilience, and overall quality of life.

Improve access to vital resources like food and medicine.

Plant diverse tree species that provide nutritious fruits, nuts, and medicinal resources. Helping communities thrive while protecting natural ecosystems.

Improve farming outcomes through agroforestry

Integrate trees into agricultural systems to boost crop yields, enhance soil health, and create long-term sustainability for farmers.

Restore and protect forests

Replant trees and preserve natural habitats worldwide. A vital step in combating climate change and safeguarding biodiversity for future generations.

ITF's Work In The UK And Africa

ITF's work in Africa promotes conservation and reforestation through two grant programmes. They currently work with partners in seven countries to plant indigenous trees, improve livelihoods, ensure sustainable management of forests and help to combat climate change. Collaborating with ITF makes us proud to become part of the group of partners working towards combating climate change and improving the communities of Kenya.

Why You Should Support this Project

The Importance Of Trees

Thousands of communities rely on forests for food, medicine, and firewood. Planting trees improves access to these essentials and protects ancient woodlands. Teaching people to grow trees and run nurseries creates income, while trees provide nuts, fruit, and other resources for families, with surplus sold for profit.

Trees also shelter wildlife, offering shade and food. ITF’s work restores habitats for animals and humans alike—from Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half the world’s mountain gorillas, to Kenya’s Imenti forest, once ravaged by poaching. Thanks to dedicated efforts, Imenti is now a thriving elephant corridor where herds raise their young.

Creating Livelihoods

Many of the communities ITF works with plant fruit trees on their smallholdings or in their gardens. Mangoes are a prime example. In Uganda, their community partners MADLACC plant mangoes, avocados and jackfruit amongst their crops. Not only do these trees benefit the land, they also provide a source of nutrition for the entire household and a way to earn an income. This makes the trees very important in creating livelihoods and a prosperous community.

Supporting Indigenous Reinhabitation

There are almost 40,000 known animal species populating the forests around the world. Despite the fact that rainforests account for less than 2% of the planet’s surface, they are inhabited by half of all its animal and plant species. The work we are doing is to support ITF’s efforts to return the habitats of the 30% of forest species that were lost through deforestation, is part of a larger initiative.

Our Progress

Through our awareness campaigns and partnership, we helped to raise enough vital funds to plant over 10,000 trees in Kenya in 2018, as part of the ITF’s 20 Million Tree Planting Campaign. We’re excited to continue this project, by working closely with the ITF and our customers. Together, we can help combat climate change and build livelihoods in the communities that need it the most.

You Can Make A Difference

Across the world, but especially in the places where ITF works, natural disasters are intensifying. Countless species are threatened with extinction. And the health, safety and livelihoods of millions of people are at risk. It’s not too late. But we need to act now. We can harness the power of trees to protect our future. By planting more trees in places where they make the fastest impact, we can safeguard our planet for generations to come.
